Tribu Baharú to make its Philly Debut at NUEVOFEST
Coming Sunday, July 16, NUEVOFEST is going to kick into hyperspeed once the incredible Tribu Baharú takes the stage. Over recent years, the Colombian ensemble has transformed into the modern day superheroes of the Afro-descendent folk genre called Champeta – a sonic gumbo made from hefty chunks of African genres like Highlife, Soukouss, Soweto Jive, sweetened with Afro-Caribbean rhythms like Soca, Calypso, Haitian Kompa, and then some. With its whirlwind tempos & stress-relieving melodies, this sound is undeniably therapeutic for the soul. But more importantly, Champeta is the sound of Afro-Colombian pride, freedom, and resilience.
